Brett Lee signs for Woodworm Cricket

Woodworm is pleased to announce today that Australian international cricketer, Brett Lee has signed an endorsement deal with the company to promote its products both on and off the field. Lee will spearhead Woodworm’s marketing activities in Australia through to and beyond the end of his international playing career. The deal will see the 30 year-old New South Wales player sport the range of Woodworm cricket equipment in addition to promoting Woodworm’s new line of golf apparel, alongside South African golfer Ernie Els and fellow cricket star Andrew Flintoff.

The player is excited to have put pen to paper, "I was first drawn to the Woodworm brand during the 2005 Ashes campaign when Freddie and KP really took it up to us with an aggressive and exciting style of cricket. Since then the brand has continued to develop into a major force in international cricket and I am really looking forward to being a part of this growth. Both Freddie and KP have told me just how successful Woodworm is in the UK and I am in no doubt that Aussies will take to the "worm" as much as the Poms."

Joe Sillett, Founder of Woodworm is equally excited, “Brett has an X factor which cricket lovers around the world admire and respect. He plays the game hard, but he also plays it fair and most importantly, he does so with a smile on his face. We have shied away from signing an Australian player for a while now, waiting for somebody of Brett’s calibre to become available and believe that we have recruited the perfect brand ambassador.”

Sanjay Jain, Managing Director of Texas Peak, Woodworm’s distributor for Australia, South Africa and New Zealand added, “We are absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with Brett. Everyone knows in Australia how high a profile Brett has not just in this country but overseas as well. Brett will open up a lot of new channels for Woodworm products in Australia and we are all extremely excited about the future.”

Neil Maxwell, Brett Lee’s Business Manager concluded, “When we became aware of Woodworm’s interest in Brett, we looked at character fit and synergy – and if you look at what Woodworm is achieving and the players associated with it, it’s very clear that Brett fits the Woodworm portfolio perfectly.”

New Batting Training Glasses

Hey guys, check out these new glasses, being used by the Australians of course to sharpen their batting skills. Below is a newspaper article i found;

By Robert Craddock
October 03, 2007

Austrailia batsmen have experimented with glasses that have had their bottom half blacked out and others that have been blurred in a bid to sharpen batsmen's focus and concentration skills. "I felt they were quite useful," experienced batsman Martin Love said. "With the blacked-out glasses you lose sight of the ball three or four metres before it gets to you, so you start reaching for the ball and hitting it in the air. Eventually you adjust and start waiting for the ball to come to you and hit it later. "When you give the glasses away you tend to hit the ball later. That is what we are trying to achieve (on seaming wickets) at the Gabba where you can get into a lot of trouble by playing too early." "Research showed because vision was so poor with the blurred glasses on, batsmen tended to concentrate better and ended up timing the ball better," Love said. The Bulls have also experimented batting in the blacked-out glasses with a bat half the width of a normal sized blade in an extreme test of their batting skills. The experiment took old-timers back to the days when South African great Barry Richards used to turn his bat sideways and point its edge to the bowler to challenge himself against bowlers he considered mediocre. "When you have the glasses on and are using half a bat it really makes you watch that ball," batsman Clinton Perren said. "Watching the ball is one of the basics of cricket - no matter what level you are at you have to do it. I found it really helped me."
